Simultaneously with Ahmet Elhan’s exhibition Notes from Overground III at Evin Art Gallery, the gallery has published a book of the same title to document the series of 74 works the artist produced during an intensive period of creation throughout the pandemic.
The publication features several essays offering diverse perspectives on the series: Gizem Kâhya İyem’s introductory text discusses the emergence of the series, its place within the gallery’s history, and the turning points in Elhan’s long-term artistic practice; Osman Nuri İyem’s essay, "Notes from Overground; De Te Fabula Narratur", examines the motivations behind the artist’s "Notes from Overground" series, exploring the relationship between photography and the historical image, as well as Elhan’s practice of uniting disparate images into a cohesive whole; Nusret Polat’s essay, "The Masked Image: On Ahmet Elhan’s Collages, analyzes the layered structure of Elhan’s digital collages, focusing on the sections titled "The Holy Family" and "The Holy Alliance"; and Ali Kayaalp’s text, "Notes from Overground III: Ahmet Elhan’s Illustrated History", approaches the series through the lens of historical imagery, regimes of representation, and aesthetic inquiry.
Bringing together these different authors’ perspectives, the book offers a multilayered reading of both the conceptual framework and the formal diversity of Ahmet Elhan’s "Notes from Overground" series. By examining the artist’s practice of transforming archival memory through digital manipulation within a broad framework, the publication comprehensively documents Elhan’s works from this series.
